Indonesia is a country with 260 millions of people separated in 17,000 islands. Thus, access to health care service is still a major issue. While, universal health coverage in Indonesia called BPJS is still suffered from deficit due to high cost of health expenditure after 6 years (2014-current). As the impact, the quality of health service is reduced or not optimum.
Minimal invasive technique of pain intervention might be one of the solutions to shorten patient’s waiting period as well as reduce Indonesia health expenditure. There are many non-pharmaceutical approaches to relieve pain with minimal invasive techniques such us prolotherapy with USG Guide, cool & hot radio-frequency with C-ARM & fluoroscopy, spinal cord stimulation, nerve block and so on so fort.
By the time, those approaches failed then operative procedure will therapeutically be appropriate and value for money.
Another new approach of pain management is regenerative medicine which can be such alternative to postpone the definitive surgery; for instance is knee replacement. As the result, BPJS can save the budget from one of most ortophaedic favorites activity namely implant for knee. For many future orthopedic surgeons, they are going to asked its competency in minimal invasive of pain management.
To accommodate the necessity of pain intervention knowledge, UNPAD alumni association with Unpad medical faculty and both national and international experts held a course to train the health resources with pain management and regenerative medicine.
